Future of Common Agricultural Policy

Dutch Minister for Agriculture Martijn van Dam hosted a two-day informal meeting of the Agriculture Council on 30 and 31 May. The meeting, which was held in Amsterdam and the Eindhoven region during the Netherlands EU Presidency, was attended by all EU agriculture ministers. The meeting’s central theme was ‘Food of the future – the future of food’, focusing on innovation and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

On Monday 30 May the 28 EU ministers, accompanied by Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Phil Hogan, visited ‘Food to be’, a temporary exhibition on the future of food being held in Eindhoven. They then moved on to the Philips GrowWise agriculture lab, and ended the day at a dairy producer with a freestall barn and milking robots. On Tuesday 31 May the ministers traveled from Eindhoven to Amsterdam’s National Maritime Museum and Ecodome to brainstorm and discuss the future of the Common Agricultural Policy.
